EcoGrove

The $200+ million EcoGrove wind energy facility in Stephenson County is the
first of its kind in northwest Illinois. EcoGrove will generate more than 250 billion kWH (kilowatt hours) of pollution-free energy each year.

Site Prospecting and Early-Stage Development
EcoEnergy engineers initially prospected for the site, erected meteorological towers to
measure the wind speed, and mapped the project. They also began the necessary
engineering and transmission studies to connect the project to the grid.

Our experienced team of wind developers and associates handled leasing agreements and local education, communicating with prospective landowners, neighbors, and the community at large. In a span of 2 ½ years, EcoEnergy wind project associates worked out agreements to lease a total of 8,000 acres of land for the EcoGrove project.

Permitting, Engineering, and Interconnection
Community and regulatory approvals were needed on many levels, and EcoEnergy staff carried out all the necessary permitting. As the project continued, EcoEnergy engineers handled the critical design for transmission interconnection and the collection system.

Our internal method to design collection systems across multiple configurations that
supply flexible levels of fault isolation lead to the development of the EcoNet Intelligent
Power Collection Network. This patent-pending process helps to reduce initial capital
costs and operating costs while increasing a wind farm’s efficiency, safety, and reliability.

Construction
EcoGrove is fully commissioned, and construction is complete.  Following its own detailed construction plan, EcoEnergy managed the project in its entirety. By managing the effort on site, we were able to control costs as well as maintain both quality and safety.

Fully Integrated Wind Energy Development
EcoEnergy has the staff and expertise to evaluate and optimize project sites, continue development through its early stages all the way into design and engineering, and bring the project to commissioning
