Arc Flash Studies
An Arc Flash Study will:
- Ensure employee safety
- Minimize the cost of downtime and lost employee productivity
- Meet the requirements of OSHA, the National Electrical Code and the National Electrical Safety Code
An accurate Arc Flash Study is an essential part of an effective electrical
and maintenance safey program for any facility. It identifies the proper
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe working distances from potentially
dangerous electrical equipment. The calculations of arc energy are accomplished
using computer software that applies the latest arc flash industry standards.
In performing an Arc Flash Study, we will:
- Verify, update, or create a plant’s electrical one-line diagram, if
necessary. An accurate electrical one-line diagram is an essential part of any
electrical system study.
- Determine the fault currents available at key locations in the electrical
system.
- Calculate safe working distances and determine proper safety attire to be
used when maintaining live electrical equipment.
- Provide arc flash hazard labels to affix to equipment to ensure compliance
with applicable requirements of 29 CFR Part 1910, NFPA-70, NFPA-70E and IEEE Std
1584.
